If
you read the newspaper, watch TV; listen to the radio, or
shop for groceries, you are probably aware of the current
interest in organic foods as an alternative to conventional
products. However, do you know what organic means?
Organic food is
produced by farming practices that focus on conserving soil
and other natural resources. Organic crops are grown without
the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, bioengineering
or ionizing radiation. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and
dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics
or growth hormones.
Organic soil is
enriched naturally which supplies the produce with more
nutrients that our bodies will benefit from when we eat
them. Nutritional value of fruits and vegetables can be
as much as 30% more in organic food than in the modern conventional
way of growing.
